Our Mission PDF Print E-mail
The mission of PAN is to provide resources and support to angel investment groups throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The organization believes that providing support to angel groups will improve the overall investment environment for angel investors and increase the number of investors and investment dollars in Pennsylvania and thus support economic development in Pennsylvania. Specific objectives are as follows:

  • Support existing angel networks and assist in the creation of new angel investor groups;
  • Facilitate angel education and enable the sharing of best practices amongst angel groups and others;
  • Encourage collaboration and communication among angel groups and group leaders, other forms of capital and various other organizations, which support the mission of PAN;
  • Provide resources to improve due diligence.
A discussion of each objective follows:

Support existing angel networks and assist in the creation of new angel investor groups;

Because organized groups are more likely to invest on an active, ongoing basis (as compared to individual investors acting in isolation), the creation of new angel groups in the Commonwealth is likely to lead to a more efficient flow of capital to Pennsylvania's companies.

PAN will assist in the creation of new angel groups by serving as a resource for information on group structures and best practices, as well as by connecting new angels/groups with more established groups for advice and guidance.  PAN will also encourage new group formation through general outreach to high net worth individuals, and through communications highlighting the benefits of organized angel investing across the Commonwealth.

Facilitate angel education and enable the sharing of best practices amongst angel groups and others

PAN will disseminate information and educational materials related to deal structuring and investment trends to angel groups throughout the Commonwealth.   PAN will also organize and promote educational seminars related to angel investing, such as the Power of Angel Investing from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

In addition to general investment-related education, PAN will also collect information related to best practices from its various member groups, as well as from angel groups nationwide, and will make this information available to angel groups across Pennsylvania.  If desired by its member groups, PAN will also facilitate the development of minimum requirements for groups (or group leaders), with the goal of ensuring common standards of conduct and professionalism among all PAN members.

Encourage collaboration and communication among groups/group leaders, other forms of capital and various other organizations which support the mission of PAN

PAN will emphasize collaboration among its member groups, and will provide opportunities for group leaders to network, develop relationships and share information.  It is hoped that these efforts will enable group leaders to gain an understanding of the preferences and areas of expertise of the various groups, and will enable the groups to more efficiently share information about deals and investment issues.

Provide resources to improve due diligence

PAN will provide access to due diligence resources, thereby creating a knowledge base that will be viewed as a benefit of PAN membership among organized angel groups.  This knowledge base may consist of shared/discounted subscriptions to industry research publications, as well as mechanisms to link groups to subject matter experts across the Commonwealth.
